Dr. Norman Eisenstadt, M.D.
Personal Statement:
I will work with you to develop a refuge where can safely work together to uncover the factors that made you the unique individual that you are, as well as the factors that hold you back from your full potential. Whether you struggle with depression, chronic mental illness, grief, or a history of trauma, together we can learn more about your strengths and abilities. This includes recognizing your biological capabilities, the influence of your environment, the cultural and faith-based forces that affected you, and the crucial role of your family, and how they influenced the way you see yourself. This philosophy has guided my relationship with patients in my past career as an internist (medical doctor for adults), cardiologist, and critical care physician, as well as my current work as a psychotherapist.
Self-discovery is but the first step. Following that we will work to uncover what you (not others) want for yourself, and what steps are needed to bring that into being. I have taken this journey with people who have mood disorders (depression, as well as bipolar disorders), anxiety related problems, and chronic illnesses such as schizophrenia.
When I work with couples, I also have the philosophy that self-discovery an important first step, along with learning to understand your partner. I have experience working with couples in high-conflict relationships as well as couples who have difficulties with communication, parenting, or who seem to have grown apart.
Although I have found the work of "talk therapy" to be most important, every person is unique and there can be no iron-clad rules. Therefore for some individuals, I may also prescribe medications to help support you as we work together in therapy. As a medical doctor, board certified in internal medicine, I am familiar with the basic psychiatric medications and can prescribe them, although I am not a psychiatrist. When necessary I will refer patients to a psychiatrist in our practice.
I work with all ages, from adolescent through older adults.
